Sessions Abstracts:

Modeling and power dimensions in data warehouses – Designing data warehouses must be designed dimensions. In such a way as to effectively use them later posed analytical realizing business objectives and what is more properly supplied with current data. How does it do? How to design dimensions in order to analyze the changes. Does the use of normalization – 6 normal form will help solve this problem, may be better used for this purpose Slowly Changing Dimension familiar with the publication of Ralph Kimball? If so, what type of SCD would be the best for our business needs? All of these topics during the session will bring an experienced consultant and trainer, SQL Server MVP – Łukasz Grala.

Collation – At its perspective, the concept of collation in SQL Server. Let me explain what are the different characteristics of collation. I will also show what the collation conflict when it occurs and how to deal with it. Lastly, I will live, how we can try to change collation in an existing database.

The facts of measure and the real world – And Luke said, I’ll say B. During my session, we will be creating OLAP cubes, particularly focusing on another important aspect of multidimensional models – the tables of facts and Measures. Here are some of the most common business problems that will require skill defined fact tables, measurements and calculations. We will learn about the different types of tables, facts and ways of their power. We will look at the rules of calculation scripts and formulas operating in multi-dimensional spaces. There will be good practice and clever tricks.

12 most common mistakes, or how not to write queries – SQL, as well as other programming languages, can achieve the same outcome in different ways. Unfortunately, the bad version of queries is more than correct. During this session we will see how a huge impact on execution time for queries are cursors, scalar functions, related subqueries, variables tabulated, conditional statements, and seven other widely abused SQL language constructs. We’ll find out too, what can we do to improve the performance of our queries.

Microsoft SQL Server Execution Plans, from Compilation to Caching to Reuse – Execution plan reuse is one of the most important aspects of building well-performing and scalable SQL Server solutions. But it’s also the one that is often overlooked during the design phase and becomes very difficult to troubleshoot later. In this session we discuss in detail the following aspects of SQL Server execution plans: compilation, re-compilation, parameterisation, caching, reuse, and aging. You will leave this session with full understanding of how to improve your server’s performance by increasing execution plan reuse (and how to avoid reuse in case this is necessary).
